On Strategy it sounds like you're proposing we focus, for those & M' only worry about sharing and comments as guardrails. l do think this is a pretty important thing to make sure everyone is on the same page about. I'm open to this, but I'd feel better about it if it looked like teens don't share on FB, but they do seem to share. on Facemqkmtimo . 0n hiring I don't know if there's a silver bullet here. You should certainly try to get someone on your list excited, but l think it's going to be hard to dislodge any of those six, so l encourage you to, in parallel, look externally. Adam From:—\> To: Date: Adam Wednesday, Mosseri_\>, November 9, 2016 Kang—Xing at 3:03 PM Jin_\>, John Hegeman_\> Subject: Re: Teens and News Feed Alignment Adam, I'm going to separately forward you the teens strategy deck and framing that I sent out to John and some of the other product leads yesterday. it addresses your questions in more depth. In brief on strategy: * We are pursuing a dual strategy of fixing real-world social Facebook that is working well in RoW, and further investing in 'social entertainment' which is about social engagement around media content and video with your real-world friends, vs. real (camera, text) content with your real-world friends. We think that this positioning may be particularly strong * Our overall in the U.S. goal as remains a complement total teen to time Snapchat spent and (MAP Instagram ' DAP/MAP * TS/DAP), with some specific efforts (Instagram) taking on tighter focused goals like U.S. teen total time spent. We should set guardrails on social interaction (posting, commenting, liking) that keep us away from the failure mode of pure entertainment consumption vs. social entertainment. ln brief on the role and candidates: " KX and I agree that the candidate for this role almost certainly needs to be internal, given the next-level expectations around coordination between FB product teams and insights into varied FB product surfaces. I'd love to hire a strong external ' person but they would likely fail in this role on this timeline. I'd love to get someone of Peter's caliber on this but my dual impressions of him are a) he prefers to be monomaniacal on a single unconstrained product surface that he controls absolutely (his playbook for My Day on messenger as an example) vs. XFN coordination across a set of teams. If this type of role is in his (very large) wheelhouse as well, l'd love to talk to him about this. ' The IC/management tension here is real. Most of the senior people who would do this are currently or plan soon to be managers. This is in effect an arms-length management role of a bunch of fractious PMs and teams, so if we called it managerial with zero direct reports, but, in effect, a bunch of dotted-lines for at least H1 and possibly all of 2017, l'd be 0K with that. CONFIDENTIAL - PROTECTED BY CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT MT-lG-AG-00147577 Question for all of you long-timers; What ex-Facebook PM could we hire back to do this role? Our internal candidate pool is tiny, and we don't believe that a noob can do this. There have to be a dozen or more "nearly perfect" ex-FB PMs who we might be able to lure back for the right role like this. It's a pretty cool job. Hiring Generally we always want our people to kno"' what their opportunities are. Neither Max nor Greg are available, but-, as long as you coordinate with John, you should definitely reach out. Overall this list looks strong. If you're thinking big than you could also consider— l've heard good things about an creative Instagram PM, but I'm blanking on his name. You should also knowthat_ is specifically looking for a management role. All that said l think your odds oflanding one of these aren't great, so l'd encourage you guys to consider ways of increasing the throughput ofsolid external candidates as well. Strategy There are a few key questions to queue up here. The first is which teens do we care about? Teens across the world or US teens or US + Western Europe teens? From our conversations so far it seems like we're leaning towards US and western Europe, but we should make sure that's clear. The other open question is what does success look like for teens. It sounds like we care primarily about visitation, but that may not be the best metric to goal around. The question then becomes do we care primarily about time, which is where we're vectoring with India, or do we care about more than that (including things like sharing). Any thoughts on the below/any other ideas? Are Greg/Max potentially available? (l haven't reached out to any of the people on the list below yet.) My team is worried that we're on track to go into a lockdOWn in January without having hashed out a clear strategy that people agree on. I understand that your priority here is hiring that senior PM lC. Given that these types of hires can take a long time do you think we should have a contingency plan? My interest here is making sure we are as productive as possible going into lockdown. Adam CONFIDENTIAL - PROTECTED BY CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT MT-lG-AG-00147579
