End-to-End Encryption

Encryption where message content is readable only by the sender and recipients, not by the platform itself. The source document records Meta's global head of safety, Antigone Davis, warning as encryption was being planned that "The quality and value of our reports to NCMEC will drop dramatically, rendering them close to useless", and that making Messenger e2ee would be "far, far worse than anything we have seen/gotten a glimpse of on WA".
